June was tough for the most part, but toward the end things really started to improve. I even went on a trip!

Financially, I didn’t have the strongest month, but my health is more important and that’s where I noticed the greatest improvement.

I spent way too much on unnecessary/personal items and that motivated me to begin a No Spend/No Buy for the rest of 2021!

You can watch the details in this video:

General $ Updates

I reached over $4,000 saved for my student loans

A new milestone!

I pulled money from several sinking funds

I pulled a total of $4,068 from my emergency fund ($3,000), travel ($315), FinCon ($600), Medical/Dental ($100), and Gifts ($53). I thought I would need more of my emergency fund, but a lot of it ended up just sitting in my checking account.

I decided I won’t be going to FinCon this year

As you can see above, I depleted my FinCon SF. I decided it’s best if I skipped on the meeting this year and put it toward my medical expenses/debt instead. I’ll probably go next year!

Debt

I started the month of June with my official debt at $36,000 and ended with $36,000. However, I technically started at $32,377.17 if you consider the money I have saved to pay those loans down

In June I saved an additional $387.17 for my student loans (bringing my total saved to $4,003.14) so my final debt for June would be $31,996.86.

I still have paid $0 in interest 😊

Spending

Some main things to point out about my spending in June:

Roth IRA: I usually only contribute $150 to my Roth IRA, but I decided to sell a whole ‘pie’ on M1 Finance that was worth $198.90. I had created that pie when I first signed up and din’t understand how the app worked yet. I didn’t really love what I was investing in so I decided to sell and contribute to my Roth instead.

Groceries: I went over on groceries by about $85, but I did make a note that $102 of this total was on protein drinks alone!

Gas: With rising gas prices and driving more than I expected, I went over on gas for my car by about $18.

Student Loan Savings: My goal for June in regards to my student loan savings was $1,400. However, once the month began I quickly realized that wouldn’t be happening. Instead, I saved enough to reach a total of $4,000 in savings.

Health/Beauty: I expected to spend quite a lot in this category, but it ended up being even more. I visited a holistic doctor and that alone cost me over $1200.

Dogs: This was another big spend area in June. One of my dogs had surgery to remove large growths on her spleen. Thankfully, they were benign growths and she is doing much better now!

Personal: I went WAY over budget on personal spending. I took a trip toward the end of June and bought a lot of hiking supplies. However, I spent quite a lot on workout leggings too. This was a big reason for me starting a No Spend 6 Months for the rest of 2021!

Other things: I ended up paying for a certification exam, renewing my passport, and travel.
