Happy June!!

General $ Updates

I got my pay increase (promotion)

As I mentioned last month, I got a promotion! That role/pay increase started May 1st, so my pay increase applied to both of my pay checks. I did get a 12% raise so of course my 401(k) contribution increased and so did my taxes.

I’m all moved in

Moving day went pretty smoothly and I settled in/adjusted pretty quickly. This move also helped me to declutter a ton and I even made some profit from selling things!

I re-allocated my 401(k)

When I first enrolled in my company’s 401(k) plan I selected the “riskiest” investing option and have kept it at that. I was contributing to quite a few Vanguard funds, but that included some bonds and funds with higher expense ratios. I decided I wanted to create my own portfolio to see more growth.

I ended up re-allocating 50% to VFIAX and 50% to VIGAX.

I switched car insurance

I’ve been with Geico for a couple years, but since I moved they were going to increase my 6-month premium by over $200. I decided to shop around and ended up switching to Progressive.

My coverage is the same and I paid $596 for 6-months of coverage. I also got a $300 refund from Geico!

Spending

Some main things to point out about my spending in May:

Roth IRA: Almost all maxed out ๐Ÿ˜Š

Personal: I used my $120+ worth of Hollister gift cards to get some Summer clothes and had to use $15.58 to cover the remainder.

Car Insurance: I mentioned this above, but I did end up switching to Progressive to save quite a bit of money!

Travel: My boyfriend and I ended up booking a trip to Costa Rica. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป This is my 30th birthday/debt free trip really. My boyfriend paid for our flights and the $525 is half of our Airbnb, HOWEVER, I redeemed my cash back on my Capital One Venture X card and was able to cover this purchase completely (that is accounted for in my extra income).
